About The Position GDS seeks an experienced high school photography & film teacher to join a diverse visual arts team that upholds high expectations, fosters creative and technical development, and facilitates the intellectual growth of our students. The successful candidate is experienced in teaching foundational to advanced levels of digital photography courses and a foundation-level digital film and animation course to a diverse group of students. The candidate will play a role in helping to develop innovative course content that includes a multicultural curriculum that supports the diverse cultural experiences of our students, and embodies the GDS mission. The ideal candidate should possess knowledge of analog processes, and digital photographic processes. Additionally, the candidate must be conversant in historical and contemporary fine art movements, and applied approaches to the medium. Primary Responsibilities Inspire, engage, and encourage students in the study of photography and film Ability to develop an innovative curriculum that incorporates photography, art history, contemporary art movements, and multicultural projects. Deliver curriculum using diverse teaching methods and engaging assignments that demonstrate relevant real-world applications Collaborate with colleagues and administrators in the development of goals for the curriculum Provide students with a clear syllabus outlining course objectives, learning outcomes, teaching methodology, attendance policies, required texts and readings, assignments, rubrics, and evaluation criteria Assess and analyze students' performance and progress to ensure mastery of developmental skills Work collaboratively with colleagues within the studio arts department, as well as any and all other high school departments Foster an inclusive environment that supports students, staff, and faculty from diverse backgrounds. Maintain open and consistent communication with families Support, teach and act in accordance with the school's mission, values and core beliefs Exhibit professional standards of presentation, ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality, professional courtesy, and discretion Forward-looking for new trends and technology that will have relevant, real world applications Work to maintain a positive culture on campus by building strong relationships with students, alumni, department, and staff members Establish and maintain standards of student behavior for a productive learning environment during class sessions Demonstrate a strong work ethic, including, but not limited to class preparation, punctuality, meeting administrative deadlines, commitment to student success Secondary Responsibilities Attend all meetings, ceremonies, and official functions as specified by the Head of School, Principal, or Department Chair Engage in professional development to continually grow as a visual arts educator Actively participate in the GDS community , including school-wide activities and annual art shows Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree required Master’s Degree or equivalent experience preferred Minimum of 3 years teaching photography in high school or equivalent Digital experience with Adobe Creative Suite is required Expertise in teaching Adobe Photoshop, Premier, and Lightroom required Proficiency in Google Suite applications Additional Skills And Experiences Exhibit patience, flexibility, and adaptability in a dynamic learning environment Wide range of photography subject matter expertise Work in a student-centered learning environment, with practical experience, research, inquiry and problem-based learning Completed a variety of work in multimedia and display an interest in new digital trends Ability to teach digital photography and other visual arts courses such as Film, Animation, or Graphic Design Interest in creating and teaching historical photography research projects Good writing and communication skills Americans with Disability Specifications Physical Demands The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
