POSITION SUMMARY

This position is responsible for developing a learning environment that fosters academic growth and encourages students to develop their mathematical skill. This position will teach students how to apply mathematical principles to solve problems, including potential equations, word problems, statistics, and binomials.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Use a variety of assessment procedures, samples, and instruments to evaluate student learning and provide specific and immediate feedback.
  2. Provide instruction by which students develop concepts and understanding of math.
  3. Demonstrate techniques in solving equations.
  4. Enhance student application of basic math, science, communication, and literacy skills that relate to the math industry.
  5. Teach the approved district curriculum to assigned students.
  6. Ensure that all activities conform to district guidelines.
  7. Employ instructional strategies that address a variety of learning styles and strengths.
  8. Use a variety of assessment procedures, samples, and instruments to evaluate student learning and provide specific and immediate feedback.
  9. Maximize available amount of time for instruction.
  10. Establish and maintain a positive learning environment and respond to the individual needs of students.
  11. Maintain an organized and attractive physical classroom environment.
  12. Set high expectations and standards for student achievement and behavior as appropriate to age and level of development.
  13. Recognize and address disabilities of students on a regular basis, seeking assistance of district specialists as required.
  14. Maintain appropriate classroom management and supervision for all assigned students.
  15. Take all reasonable and necessary precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.
  16. Meet and instruct assigned classes in the location(s) and time(s) designated.
  17. Coordinate and supervise field trips as appropriate for assigned teaching area.
  18. Assist with the activities of student organizations as assigned.
  19. Attend staff meetings and serve on committees.
  20. Strive to maintain and improve professional competence by participating in district-initiated staff development.
  21. Communicate effectively and clearly with others.
  22. Use appropriate and effective written and spoken language.
  23. Maintain accurate, complete and correct records as required by law, school district policy and school administrative requirements.
  24. Prepare appropriate lesson plans for substitute teachers.
  25. Use appropriate technology for both instructional and management functions.
  26. Adhere to all district policies, handbooks, and regulations.
  27. Support the philosophy and mission of the Aberdeen School District
  28. Other duties as assigned.

  1. Knowledge of principles, practices, and techniques of teaching and assigned course.
  2. Knowledge of mathematic terminology and appropriate techniques.
  3. Ability to represent abstract concepts in concrete ways.

  6. Skill in analyzing complex issues, defining problems and evaluating alternatives and recommending methods, procedures and techniques for resolution of issues.

  7. Ability to effectively utilize the principles of strategic and long and short-range planning

  8. Ability to research and analyze detailed information and make appropriate recommendations.

  9. Ability to develop classroom goals and objectives.

  10. Ability to plan, develop, implement, and evaluate projects and assignments.

  11. Ability to establish and maintain accurate records of assignments and lesson plans.
  12. Skill in organizational and time management to prioritize duties to accomplish a high volume of work product while adapting to constant changes in priority.
  13. Ability to perform detailed work accurately and independently in compliance with stringent time limits with minimal direction and supervision.
  14. Ability to think quickly, maintain self-control, and adapt to stressful situations.
  15. Ability to adapt and take control of situations, dictating student activities in a responsible manner.
  16. Ability to instruct and train in methods and procedures.
  17. Ability to organize, assign, and modify the work assignment of students, and meet deadlines.
  18. Knowledge of current office practices and procedures and knowledge of the operation of standard office equipment and software.
  19. Knowledge of computer software including word processing, spreadsheet and database applications consistent for this position.
  20. Ability to perform mathematical calculations required of this position.
  21. Ability to communicate clearly, concisely and effectively in English in both written and verbal form.
  22. Ability to prepare and maintain accurate and concise records and reports.
  23. Ability to maintain professionalism at all times.
  24. Ability to maintain effective working relationships with individuals and students within and outside the organization.
  25. Ability to work the allocated hours of the position and respond after hours as needed.

  • Work has standard vision requirements.

  • Work has little to no exposure to adverse environmental conditions.
  • Work is generally in a moderately noisy office setting (e.g. business office, light traffic).
  • Regular in person attendance is an essential function of the job position.

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in an approved teaching education program.

  • Current and valid South Dakota teaching certificate with endorsements in the areas of the teaching assignment.
  • Must be highly qualified for the position according to South Dakota Department of Education guidelines and regulations.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum of two (2) years industry experience

  • Previous teaching experience

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

  • Employment is contingent upon a Criminal Justice Fingerprint/Background Clearance, paid for by the applicant.
