KGW in Portland, Oregon is seeking a highly-skilled and creative photojournalist to join our team. Are you a dedicated storyteller? Do you want to work in an innovative newsroom that empowers photographers? If yes, we want to hear from you. A strong candidate should demonstrate excellent shooting and editing skills in news packages, covering breaking news, with proficiency in lighting and sound design. Experience with digital cinema cameras, DSLRs, drones, or FAA Part 107 certification is a plus. This is a full-time, non-exempt position, represented by IATSE. Shifts may include weekends, nights, or mornings. Responsibilities Use the latest editing and photography tools (e.g., Edius, Adobe) to craft compelling stories. Produce original content for on-air and digital/streaming platforms. Enhance stories with creative production techniques like graphics and new media. Participate in editorial meetings, contribute ideas, and suggest stories. Manage live shots and remote broadcasts as assigned. Cover various stories including breaking news, features, and long-form videos. Edit and publish video and text content for KGW.com and the KGW app. Perform additional tasks as directed by supervisors or producers. Minimum Requirements Valid driver’s license and ability to operate news gathering vehicles. BA/BS in journalism, communications, or related field. At least 3 years of relevant experience. Experience in newsroom or documentary/video production industries preferred. Proficiency in photojournalism, editing, and content management systems. Experience with Sony digital cinema cameras (FS5, FS7, or similar) preferred. Strong news judgment, writing, photography, and editing skills. Flexibility, reliability, and dependability. Understanding of journalistic ethics. Organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines. Calmness under pressure during live, breaking news situations.
