Network Test Engineer Department: Engineering Employment Type: Full Time Location: Fort Worth 2101 Reporting To: Thomas Brown Compensation: $85,000 - $110,000 / year Description The Network Test Engineer will design and/or analyze test solutions for projects that include areas of involvement such as broadband testing, Wi-Fi, network modeling, RF, and functional testing. He/She leads and manages key activities in the development and deployment activities inclusive of new test criteria, customer interface, OEM interface. The Network Test Engineer creates and maintains positive relationships with the internal and external stakeholders of the business to establish a consumer-focused culture. The Network Test Engineer is responsible for the technical and engineering focused areas of involvement for telecom, broadband, mobility, and IoT. Ownership of network test processes and systems to integrate to those areas. The general purpose of such role is to select, interface and design hardware and software solutions, and off the shelf devices used to measure, analyze, and diagnose the performance of field equipment or consumer electronics and/or network equipment. Use of test equipment to ensure the quality and functionality of networks and related hardware. Research and acquire appropriate test equipment and provide customer training on its use. Manage hardware and network assignments for test engineers and acquire test equipment for their team. Key Responsibilities Essential Functions: Contributor Role: The Network Test Engineer owns the design and output of identified test criteria and formal SOW from either customer requirements and/or internal development. The Network Test Engineer is also in charge of the interface to management and the execution of product testing, automation, standardization, test procedures, project plans and delivery commitments. He/She leads the development teams with a focus on Network Test technologies and processes. The Network Test Engineer uses test cases to identify, prioritize, and categorize the automation process, reducing operation costs. They design, develop, and execute test plans and test cases for various projects, ensuring solutions are operational and code certification for deployment. They also create detailed test documentation, including plans, procedures, network diagrams, and reports. The Network Test Engineer is also in charge of the management of technical integrations and relationships with internal and external stakeholders. The Network Test Engineer is in charge of team building and provides technical leadership for the design and implementation of features and site process, equipment, and system enhancements. In his/her leadership capacity, the Network Test Engineer develops, implements, and maintains site engineering standards and policies. He/She also acts as mentor to key development personnel and potential customers, assisting in the execution of duties upon request, and readying these key personnel for the occupation of this position. Strategy: The Network Test Engineer drives the strategy, architecture, and development of the business’s test solutions processes. In this capacity, the Network Test Engineer develops and implements engineering strategies meant for the development of technological tools and processes required for current and future site development. He/She organizes activities for the development, implementation, release, and maintenance of projects necessary for product development, deployment, and sustenance. In this capacity, the Network Test Engineer will also perform engineering design evaluations and ensure the completion of site technical projects within resource, budget, and scheduling restraints. Collaboration: The Network Test Engineer plays a highly collaborative role where he works closely with the customer and OEM technical team, product management, and leadership in defining long-term test strategies and roadmaps. In this collaboration he/she also coordinates and communicates development activities and priorities with the senior leadership in order to ensure the successful completion of project objectives. The Network Test Engineer also helps the junior development teams in building new products and features from the early phases of site development to completion. Ability to facilitate and publish understandable, accurate and complete test results of a test or experiment. Use of test results to evaluate the performance of equipment, peripheral against the network chosen systems and identify problems. Supply results to report issues to the software and hardware developers and to improve the overall quality of the system. Conducted Lab exit reviews/discussions based on the test results. Provided empirical test results in the desired format requested by customer, lab and/or OEM. Knowledge: The Network Test Engineer takes initiative to explore, evangelize, and implement innovative technologies within the business to improve the business’s internal platforms as well as customer experience. He/She provides support and leadership to development departments, facilitating continuous evolution in both the frontend and backend development teams. Solid foundation in technical skills to excel in their role. Able to troubleshoot issues with TCP IP, test equipment, and perform test cases. Experience in providing technical support and QA for these systems. Knowledge in the following but not limited to. The Network Test Engineer follows up on the business procedures, policies, and associated tools to develop processes that are more efficient and ensure conformity with the business’s policies and overall objectives. Travel: Ability to travel up to 15% of the time Job Qualifications Education/Certifications: Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT, or related field, or equivalent practical experience Experience: Experience with various network protocols, such as TCP/IP, UDP, and MPLS. Experience designing, analyzing, and troubleshooting distributed systems. Experience developing and automating networking products, technologies, software, and protocols, and writing networking automation. Engineer will also have experience working with various automation technologies and consumer site/program development. Skills and Qualifications: Knowledge of network hardware, such as routers and switches. Able to develop and execute test plans for network performance. Preferred Skills and Qualifications: Aptitude for data analysis Team management skills Engineering and technical knowledge, preferably in Network, Broadband, RF Test Understanding of engineering practices and procedures Basic user abilities in Microsoft Office Suite Ability to write reports, business correspondence and instructions Ability to present information to Senior level, clients, suppliers, peers, and employees Ability to learn and work with different toolsets and systems as well as identify requirements Ability to help in the analysis for all Test paperwork instructions, and procedures Strong customer service skills Excellent math skills Problem solving ability Communication Skills: The Network Test Engineer must possess exceptional communication skills both in written and in verbal form. Communication skills will be especially important in his leadership position, where clear conveyance of instructions and information down the line to junior development departments will play a significant role in determining the overall performance of the development engineering department.
