The Telecom Engineer is responsible for implementing telephony systems and unified communications technologies including (but not limited to) premise-based, cloud, and traditional telecommunications data and voice analog and digital services. This position is responsible for performing adds, moves, and changes with conferencing end points, A/V equipment, telecommunication cabling, patch panel, and telephone block terminations. Supports telecommunications equipment to ensure proper operation including upgrades, installations, and troubleshooting. The position exhibits good problem-solving skills and resourcefulness to competently work on complex video conferencing, and telecommunications issues with only general supervision. The position is responsible for collaborating with third-party technical vendors, technicians, and needs to be available to work overtime as needed outside of normal business hours.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Plans, evaluates, and/or coordinates the installation of local and/or remote data and voice communications equipment.
  • Executes performance and statistical monitoring and develop procedures and best practices to improve overall environment.
  • Responsible for supporting Voice over IP telephony systems, communications terminals, video conferencing, multi-point conferencing units.
  • Establishes communications systems by installing, operating, and maintaining voice and data telecommunications network circuits and equipment.
  • Establishes voice and data networks by running, pulling, terminating, and splicing cables; installing telecommunications equipment.
  • Maintains network by troubleshooting and repairing outages, testing network back-up procedures, and updating documentation.
  • Works closely with communication service providers for ordering, installing, and troubleshooting of voice and data services at remote locations.
  • Troubleshoots issues by defining problems, collecting data, establishing facts, and drawing valid conclusions for root cause analysis.
  • Ensure overall availability and stability of all Collaboration and Voice / Video Infrastructure technologies.

Skills:

  • 3 to 5 years of related IT/telecommunications, video conferencing, and A/V experience.
  • Experience with Data Center/PoP/Central Office last mile analog and digital voice and data services.
  • Knowledge and proficiency with telephony CAT 5/6 wiring, and fiber optic cable installation standards.
  • Experience with basic networking protocols including DNS, DHCP, VPNs, WAN/LAN TCP/IP.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills are important, responsibilities will include extensive team and customer contact.
  • Must be able to frequently lift and/or move up to 20 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds with assistance.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license. The willingness and ability to travel to various customer sites daily with the potential for overnight trips.

Education & Knowledge:

  • Associate degree in a related technical discipline, or the equivalent combination of education, technical training, or work experience.
  • CCNA Routing and Switching, or CCNA Security.
